The King & Allen Guide to… Choosing a custom made suit.

At King & Allen our consultants are there to guide you every step of the way, so that whether you are looking for mens or ladies custom suits you’ll be getting expert impartial advice from an experienced professional.

However, to help you make your decisions, below are our top 5 tips for choosing the perfect custom made suit:

Choosing a custom suit – Tip 1

Talk to your consultant.

They will ask you questions about what suits you like to where and when you like to wear them. If the suit is for a special occasion, tell them all about it. The more we know about you the better.

Choosing a custom suit – Tip 2

The style of the cloth
The cloth dictates more than anything else the overall ‘look’ of a custom made suit. We offer over 3000 cloths, from solid colours through to pin-stripes and checks. We will help you make sure you make the right decision, but always take care to consider your environment. Just because you are a very outgoing person that doesn’t necessarily mean that a loud, audacious suit is going to reflect well in the office, or at that special event.

Choosing a custom suit – Tip 3

The practicality of the cloth

King & Allen’s custom suits are built to last, but some cloths are more suitable to certain environments. The perfect cloth for a beach wedding will not be the perfect cloth for the daily commute! The general rule is that the heavier cloths keep their shape better as the day wears on, although we offer some specially constructed lightweight cloths that break these rules.

Choosing a custom suit – Tip 4

The style options.

As with the cloth, some choices are more suited to certain environments. A one button, narrow peak lapel with slanted pockets and contrast stitching is a very modern, sharp, Italian style suit. A two button, notch lapel with straight pockets is more of a classic Savile Row style. Both could work for you – it’s just a case of getting the combinations right.

Just a quick note to say thank you for my suit. The meticulous attention to detail and excellent tailoring exude quality. A credit to the amount of work that went in to it. I will definitely be back for more. Jon Millbanks

Choosing a custom suit – Tip 5

The fit

To wear a perfectly fitted custom suit first time is an experience you’ll never forget! If the fit is right you’ll know straight away, because you will look and feel like a million dollars! At King & Allen we offer a fit guarantee, so we don’t let you take away your suit until you are completely happy.

Special advice if you are looking to have a ladies custom suit made: make sure you are wearing your usual heels and your usual size bra for the fitting, so that the measurements can be as accurate as possible.
