Keeping Warm and Staying Stylish

When the weather gets colder, it’s important to stay warm and comfortable. But this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your sartorial swagger! Take a look at our top tips to beat the big freeze and maintain your inimitable style.

Three-piece Suits

It’s no secret that we love a three-piece suit at King & Allen! During winter, it’s a great choice because the extra layer of the waistcoat will keep your torso warm, while still looking dapper. The beauty of a three-piece is that it will keep you warm while you're outside but, when you go back indoors and heat up, you can take it off and still look smart.

To change up your look, why not get a few different waistcoats in complementary colours, which adds further versatility to your look. You can choose to have the back of the waistcoat in a lining material, with a plain colour or a more bold, audacious pattern.

Coats

A beautifully-tailored overcoat can add next-level style to your wardrobe. Whether you wear it with a suit for work or formal occasions, or casually with jeans and a jumper, this timeless garment should be an essential. There are so many styles to choose between, from a shorter peacoat, to the classic overcoat, to a maxi coat that falls just above the floor for a dramatic look.

If fitted over a suit, we’ll cut it a little wider on the shoulders to accommodate the shoulder padding of the suit underneath. It might also need to be slightly longer on the sleeve, as the pad of the suit will raise up the overcoat and make the sleeve appear shorter.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to fabric choices for your coat. Cashmere is timeless and elegant, tweed is robust and has the classic countrywear look and waterproof cotton is a fantastic choice for a trench coat. Corduroy is also having a resurgence. Coming from the French ‘corde du roi’ meaning ‘cloth of the King,’ it’s a way to bring some royal flair into your life this winter.

Suiting Cloth

Tweeds are always the obvious choice for a winter suit or sports jacket. ‘Morland tweed is great for those who don’t like the hairiness of classic tweed’ says King & Allen consultant, Chloe. ‘Heavy-weight worsted wools drape beautifully,’ she says ‘and keep you warm in the colder months.’ For more formal events, velvet is a great choice for a dinner suit. It can also look supremely dapper as a standalone smoking jacket for a Christmas party.

We also offer the amazing Aquarret technology, which provides liquid and stain fabric protection, all while retaining the luxury feel of the natural cloth. Perfect if you get caught up in a shower!

For shirts, cotton is breathable but going for a heavier weight will keep you warm and have a textured, sumptuous look.
